Keyboard Shortcuts


Shortcuts have been developed to ease working on your PC when performing common or repetitive tasks. A number of shortcuts use the Windows Start Key - as shown on the right. On this page, we will refer to this button as the "Windows Key".


 

Explorer - Instant Open [TOP]

WINDOWS KEY+E

This Shortcut will Open Windows Explorer instantly, allowing you to manage files on your PC.


Minimize All [TOP]

WINDOWS KEY+M

This minimizes all your currently open windows to the Start bar, allowing you to access your desktop.


Copy [TOP]

CTRL+C

This copies the currently highlighted or selected item/file into memory, ready to be pasted into another application or location.
NOTE: If CTRL+C if pressed a second time, the previous memory containse will be lost, Also you may find some non microsoft programs do not support this shortcut.


Cut [TOP]

CTRL+X

This shortcut cuts out a selected file, text, or part of a picture, puts it temporarily into memory until the CTRL+V shortcut is used, where the cut object will be taken from memory - moved or inserted to the selected destination.
NOTE : when dealing with files, the cut function MOVES the file to the new location, and it also will not move anything until the paste shortcut has been used, if you cut of copy another item before this, nothing will hapen to the file and it will remain in its origginal location.


Paste [TOP]

CTRL+V or SHIFT + INSERT

After COPY or CUT has been actioned, CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT will PASTE the copied or cut item to the selected location.
NOTE: You may find some non microsoft programs do not support this shortcut.


Address Bar Homing [TOP]

ALT+D

This will move the cursor focus to the Address bar, as well as highliting all the text in the bar.


Quick User Switch [TOP]

WINDOWS KEY+L

This shortcut will take you to the welcome screen. the same as START>LOG OFF>Switch User.


Undo [TOP]

CTRL+Z

If you have made a mistake in a file or while editing a picture, or even deleted a file by accedent, this short cut will undo your previous action, and repeated presses will undo further actions depending on how many undos the program will allow.
NOTE : If you delete a file that IS NOT LOCAL ON YOUR PC, I.E ACROSS A NETWORK DRIVE - THEN THE FILE WILL BE LOST PERMINATLY


Using the € (Euro) Symbol [TOP]

ALT GR+4

The ALT GR Key is located on the right of the space bar on modern keyboards, pressing the above shortcut produces the Euro Curency symbol when in a text application.


Renaming Files [TOP]

F2

In explorer, if you wish to rename a file quickly, pressing F2 allows you to change its name


WORD : Bold text [TOP]

CTRL+B

In Microsoft Word, highlighting text and pressing CTRL+B will bold the text, alternativly without highlighting text, your typing from your current point on will be in bold until CRTL+B is pressed again to turn off bold text.


WORD : Italic text [TOP]

CTRL+I

n Microsoft Word, highlighting text and pressing CTRL+B will bold the text, alternativly without highlighting text, your typing from your current point on will be in bold until CRTL+B is pressed again to turn off bold text.


RUN Quick Launch [TOP]

WINDOWS KEY+R

In Microsoft Word, highlighting text and pressing CTRL+B will bold the text, alternativly without highlighting text, your typing from your current point on will be in bold until CRTL+B is pressed again to turn off bold text.


System Properties [TOP]

WINDOWS KEY+BREAK

This shortcut will bring up your system properties as you could get if you right clicked on the "MY COMPUTER" icon and selected properties
